About the Interactive Experience
Come and experience the art of African storytelling and the rhythmic power of drumming in this engaging event led by members of the Africa Center Hong Kong. The fully immersive experience will give you the opportunity to explore these rich traditions in three sequential steps: learn how drums are used for communication and to enhance storytelling skills; experience the captivating nature of storytelling through a performance by Daniela Alam, author of When the Rains Stop, and become an integral part of the narrative as you respond with drums and vocals; and collaborate with fellow participants in small groups to craft your own short stories using both drums and vocals to create a dynamic and interactive performance. Designed to replicate the cultural traditions of African storytelling around a fire or under moonlight, a pan-African meal will be served accompanied by stories that reveal the origin and cultural significance of the dishes.
It is a fun and family-friendly space to find heartwarming African food and direct connection to the local African community. The center is for everyone, where they can freely express themselves and their ideas.

The Africa Center is a turning point for the African communities within Hong Kong, and for those who wish to learn and integrate with the community not just within the city, but through out the African diaspora.
Researcher
I value the “African Literature Book Club” as I value Women’s Day and Black History Month because African literature deserves a spotlight.
