African Indigenous Religions Demystified
“Witchcraft”, “Black Magic” and “Juju”; these are some of the terms ascribed to African indigenous religions by colonialists and contemporaries alike. But what do we actually practice? And how do we experience and take pride in our indigenous religions? In this session you learn about our cosmologies and how we interact with the landscape e.g. how indigenous beliefs in sacred forests worked as a vehicle to conservation. We will demystify African indigenous religions; from the religion of Mwari on the continent to voodoo among the African diaspora. The session ends with a pan-African buffet meal.
