Global Citizenship Program offers a unique opportunity to broaden students’ horizons and equip students with the necessary skills and attitude to tackle social issues in complex power dynamics and multi-cultural space. Through African cultural immersive activities, including African drumming and dance, art, cooking workshops, and design thinking tools, students will get a solid appreciation of the culture of the communities they learn to serve, and prepare to be active local and global citizens.
In many African societies, knowledge sharing has always been embedded in the community as education was traditionally not centralized or institutionalized. This is the spirit of learning that is brought into this social innovation and global citizenship program.
Project Objectives:
- To learn and appreciate the African cultures and its perspectives through cultural activities
- To identify social problems faced by African migrant communities in Hong Kong and come up with possible solutions using Design Thinking tools
- To develop students’ problem solving skills in a real-life context
